Personal Statement

Christine holds a B.A. in Mathematics from Fordham University and an M.A. in Education from the University of Saint Joseph. She taught middle school mathematics and has tutored middle and high school students for the last twenty years, including SAT and ACT preparation. Her favorite and more recent teaching posts have been coaching an Odyssey of the Mind team and teaching a Creative Thinking Circle where her students engage in creative, critical, and divergent thinking. Christine’s strengths lie in her ability to explain the subject matter well and with enthusiasm. She can give solid, real life examples and relate the material to her students’ lives. She asks probing questions to allow students to come to a solution on their own and reinforces the idea that making errors is the normal part of the learning process. She is hard-working, dedicated, willing to learn, and able to bring learning to life. Christine enjoys homeschooling three of her four children, spending time with her large extended family, doing puzzles, and exploring the outdoors.

Testimonials

  • "It has been an absolute pleasure working with Christine this past year. Our youngest son, entering high school in the fall, worked with her to prepare for private HS entrance exams as well as generalized algebra tutoring. “She is organized, kind and explains topics in different ways if I don’t understand it at first.” He did outstanding on his entrance exams and he is not a huge math fan. Our older son takes to math with greater ease. He utilized Christine's tactics to prepare for the SAT and saw a large gain. She is a successful tutor for many reasons: her unparalleled command of math at all levels, organization skills, is extremely easy to work with and has great communication skills. She expects the best out of her students and most importantly, she gets the most out of them. As a mom, I love that they’re happy when they leave . . . they feel really good about themselves knowing they’ve done great work, understood the material and pushed themselves."

  • Christine is one of the most understanding teaching figures I've had. Once she gets to know you and your habits as a student, she works to solve those problems over the simple surface level mistakes that you may be making in your test prep. The more time with Christine the better as you'll build a relationship that allows you to see your own potential mistakes before you make them. Jack L, student at The Pingry School

  • Christine tutored my daughter for the Math section of the SAT, helping her progress from a 620 to a perfect score of 800! She is a welcoming and patient tutor who helped my daughter work through many math problems and build a great skill set for the exam. She was challenged each week and they moved at a good pace. Needless to say, my daughter was very pleased with her tutoring sessions and her score! Barbara M., Chatham, NJ
