Jacob, Ph.D.

Personal Statement

Jacob currently holds a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of California, Irvine and a BA in chemistry from Rutgers.  Jacob has done two postdoctoral scholar programs, one in desalination at the University of Kentucky and another in data mining at the University of Michigan.  During his postdoctoral scholar program at University of Michigan, Jacob was invited to present his work to a team at the National Institute of Standards and Technology.  Throughout his career, he has mentored undergraduate and graduate students and oversaw their career progress and research projects.  Jacob believes each student has his or her own strengths and weakness, and that by focusing on the weakness first, learning outcomes improve.  He strives to engage each student with the empathy that he was in their shoes at one time in his life.  In his free time, Jacob enjoys gardening, cooking, and hiking.
