Personal Statement

Julianne began tutoring in the fourth grade when she was placed next to a struggling student in her class. She went on to be a water-ski instructor during the summer months of high school and later a tutor for math students during her senior year of college. While interning at Los Alamos National Laboratory, she was asked to assist in rewriting a coloring book that would help school-aged children to understand neutron scattering on a basic level. After graduating from James Madison University with a degree in Mathematics and a minor in French, Julianne completed a thesis in New Zealand based on theoretical chemistry topics but found that instead of researching into the unknown, she preferred fostering the love of math and science in others. Julianne went on to complete a Master of Arts in Teaching Secondary Mathematics from the University of Delaware. She enjoys finding one more way to ask deeper questions about the concepts so that students can develop their understanding into mastery, through logic and application of prior knowledge. Julianne started her teaching career at Woodbridge High School in Bridgeville, Delaware in 2011. In 2013, she joined one of the nation’s top independent schools to teach Algebra, Geometry and Algebra 2. She enjoys singing, playing guitar and traveling the world.
