Personal Statement

Karin received an MA in Economics from Rutgers University and a BA in Economics with Minors in Math and Physics with a 3.75 GPA. A tutor for over 20 years, she has worked with students at all levels from early childhood through Harvard graduate school students. A mother of three children including two with learning disabilities, she personally knows firsthand that students learn differently. Karin is an active member of her school community. She enjoys following her son’s wrestling matches and playing sudoku and journaling in her spare time.

I’ve worked with different learning styles and have connected higher level math to real world experiences in order to enhance the students’ understanding. I first demonstrate a concept and then ask the student to solve a similar problem. While watching how they go about the process, I then help them in the specific areas where they struggle to build upon their strengths. I do my best to encourage them and help them discover how they can improve.
