Meaghan

Personal Statement

Meaghan began her career as a journalist, but she fell in love with teaching ten years ago and hasn’t looked back since. She has spent the past decade working with students in grades 9-12, focusing mainly on the study of American Literature, British Literature, and Creative Writing. She also has worked as a private SAT/ACT/college admissions essay instructor during this time. Her greatest joy is helping young people discover their most authentic voice in their written and oral expression. Meaghan graduated cum laude from Loyola University’s Honors Program, where she double-majored in journalism and theater. She earned an MFA in Writing from the National University of Ireland in Galway. She has taught at private schools in Manhattan and Long Island, where she has served as the drama and musical director, advised literary publications, and garnered many awards as moderator of the schools’ newspapers. She founded two Shakespeare companies and has directed and produced more than 10 classical plays and musical productions. She currently works at a nationally ranked private school in NJ, where she teaches English 9 and 10, co-directs the fall play, and co-advises the yearbook. In her spare time, she enjoys reading contemporary fiction, writing original plays, going to the movies, comparing Macbeth to Breaking Bad, and spending all of her money on Broadway shows.
