Personal Statement

Meeraj has been tutoring students for over 8 years on standardized tests such as the SAT, ACT, and GRE as well as AP and SAT Subject Tests in Math, English, and Biology. With a Bachelors in Engineering and a Masters in Writing, Meeraj brings a wealth of experiences and methodologies to his tutoring practice, including his success in curriculum-writing and developing test-taking techniques for the SAT: a body of work for which he has achieved national rank and glowing testimonials from students and parents. Assuming they work diligently, consistently, and allow themselves enough time to prepare, Meeraj’s students typically report score increases ranging from 250 – 600 points on the Old SAT; 150 – 300 on the New SAT; 5 – 9 points on the ACT; and 8 – 16 points on the GRE. He has coached many students to perfect 800’s on all sections of both the Old and New SAT, and many of his students attain 34+ scores in at least one section. Outside of work, he enjoys reading classic and modern literature, as well as non-fiction; watching TV serials, documentaries, and films; and going for long walks.

Meeraj believes that there is no concept that cannot be presented in a crisp, logical, and concise fashion. Rather than present material in a text-bookish or jargon-heavy manner, he prefers to break ideas down and explain them at an intuitive level, often utilizing visuals and analogies, before connecting these concepts to specific tasks, situations, and applications. When it comes to developing strategies and approaches, Meeraj understands that what works for one person will not work for everyone, and is willing to adapt strategies to suit the student’s needs rather than press his students into conformity. He hopes that students walk away from his lessons with skills and tools that they will carry with them well beyond school and test prep, and that they come to find an appreciation for and joy in the process of learning itself.
