Throughout the years, Nancy has worn many hats, including that of Middle school and High school classroom English teacher, tutor of homebound students for several Long Island school districts, and test prep and admission essay coach. She is also an editor, professional journalist and children’s book writer. (Yes, she’s admittedly been around a long time, but remains young-at-heart!) Her professional writing credits include The New York Times, for which she was a stringer (freelancer) for four years, Newsday, Seventeen Magazine, Child Magazine, Woman’s World, and numerous medical, ethnic and regional publications. Both of her writing failures and successes have helped her better understand the struggles inherent in the writing process, and enabled her to become a more understanding and efficient essay writing coach.
Some of her favorite teaching moments coincide with my students’ “ahha” moments, when the ‘curtain’ parts, and there is a visible gleam of understanding and newfound confidence in their eyes. When she is not writing or teaching, she is actively practicing yoga, walking on the beach, reading, socializing, and watching independent movies. She is married, and has an adult son who publishes a neighborhood magazine.
