Richard

Personal Statement

Richard is a creative and professional writer, a certified Language Arts teacher and a professional tutor. With many years’ educational experience in a variety of writing and test prep workshops, with students one-on-one and in the classroom, he has helped students of all abilities and learning styles find their voices and become well-rounded writers. Richard has his Master of Arts in literature from Temple University, and his Master of Fine Arts in fiction writing from Stonecoast at the University of Southern Maine, one of the nation’s top-ten low residency MFA programs. Writing can and should be inspiring, even fun. These days it seems people of all ages are afraid of writing, but Richard transforms the process into one of discovery and excitement in which a piece of writing, even just a few words, can attain magic. When Richard isn’t teaching, he works on his fiction, reads, watches movies, plays guitar and piano in his band, plays tennis, and hangs out with his wife, son, and infant daughter.

“…My son was an avid reader with an advanced vocabulary; however, he is dyslexic and struggled when it came to expressing his thoughts in written work. He and Richard instantly bonded and related in so many ways to one another through their love of literature and music. Within months, the skills and writing techniques Richard taught elevated our son’s school work and raised his SAT scores dramatically. Today, our son is thriving in his third year at University and feels his writing skills are well beyond that of his peers due to Richard’s involvement.”
