Personal Statement
Stephen is a highly qualified, classically trained, dual certified master educator with nineteen years of teaching experience in high school social studies and business education classes in New Jersey, Maryland, Arkansas, and Virginia. During this time, Stephen has taught Advanced Placement Economics (Micro & Macroeconomics) for more than ten years and has successfully guided his students to high levels of success on both the AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics exams. Most notably with one student earning a perfect score on the 2015 AP Microeconomics exam, and a four student team being named the National Economic Council State Champions after earning a perfect score on the 2020 New Jersey National Economic Challenge Exam. With 740 AP Microeconomics and 645 Macroeconomics exams taken, Stephen’s students have amassed a 96% percent passing rate on the AP Microeconomics exam (with 81% earning a 4 or 5) and a 92% passing rate on the AP Macroeconomics exam (with 80% earning a 4 or 5). As a result of his efforts in the classroom over this time period, Stephen was voted Teacher of the Year in 2019 by the students of Chatham High School in New Jersey. Outside of the classroom, Stephen has served as an AP Microeconomics table leader and reader for the past six years and an AP Summer Institute Workshop Consultant for the past two years. Stephen holds a B.S.E in Secondary Education & History from Seton Hall University, M.Ed in Athletic Administration from Goucher College, and an MBA from the University of Baltimore. Stephen is also an experienced tutor with over seven years of experience working with both high school and college students in the study of economics.
