Personal Statement

With an academic background in biology and economics from UC Berkeley and a professional background in agricultural biotech research with the USDA, Amy is an experienced educator that specializes in teaching math for standardized testing (HSPT/SSAT/SAT/ACT), math courses up to AP Calculus AB, and biology up to AP Biology/ SAT II Biology. As someone who struggled with keeping up with her high school classes, but developed better learning and studying strategies to excel in college, she understands how to: teach students to deconstruct complex concepts and problems to solve, provide accessible explanations for foundational concepts, and motivate students to create novel applications with their knowledge. She pulls from her real life experiences, as well her students' own interests, to not only teach the material, but to provide context for learning and allow students to both relate to and take initiative to use what they have learned for their own purposes.
