Brian
Personal Statement
Brian has an M.A. in History from Rutgers University/NJIT and also an M.A.T. (Master of Arts in Teaching) from Montclair State University. He teaches both World and US History and English composition at the college level, but he also likes to tutor students of all ages on an individual basis in World and US History, particularly for the AP exam, as well as for the verbal sections of the ISEE & SSAT, and the SAT & ACT. He graduated from the Dwight-Englewood School years ago, so he is familiar with admissions to independent and private schools. Brian believes in making students feel comfortable while tutoring them and giving them positive reinforcement throughout the process. He also likes to include humor on occasions while working with students. He uses scaffolding, so that once a student masters a concept or type of question for a standardized exam, the student is ready to tackle a harder one. He wants to help students strive to achieve their very best when taking standardized admissions, achievement, or AP exams.
