Personal Statement

Christian has been teaching kids K-12 for over twenty years. An energetic and compassionate person, he has a strong love for educating young minds. One of his best strengths is inspiring students of all ages to achieve their best self. Christian believes a teacher should be a motivator as well as a bringer of joy, success, and self-esteem. He also has over twenty years of experience working with both troubled and special needs children. Christian has worked extensively in his fields and teaches from his vast knowledge of literature, arts, humanities, music, education, and mentoring. He recently graduated from Montclair St and has his certificate to teach English grades 7-12. Christian believes a full holistic approach is essential. His goal is to raise confident and successful democratic citizens who can give back to their communities and be inspired to do what they love for a living. He believes in allowing students to explore what they are passionate about, and then to find out how to use this as their purpose in the world. Having always known that he wanted to help people, Christian attended the New School for Social Research in New York City and studied to be a psychologist. After two years he left the New School to form a rock and roll band. After playing in a band for many years, Christian realized that his true passion was teaching, and in 2007 he became involved with the creation of the School of Rock. Combining a love of music with the desire to bring a safe place to the community where kids could meet like-minded people and could feel confident by performing onstage, the School of Rock Chatham was one of the first five original schools built. Today the School of Rock franchise has grown to over 200 schools around the world and are all based on the original model and curriculum that Christian was involved in creating at Chatham. He takes great pride in the fact that consistently every year Chatham has been the highest performing school in the country. He is also very proud to have been a part of the Chatham community and to have helped so many students over the last thirteen years while working as a show director and teacher. Christian believes that the point of education is for the student to discover who they are, what they love, and what they want to do with their lives. He believes in motivating students to set goals and achieve them. He also provides regular communication with parents. He feels that quite often it is not the curriculum but rather the one teacher or mentor who can make all the difference when it comes to motivating a student. Providing fun and interactive lessons for each individual student, Christian believes in hard work and he feels students should take responsibility for their learning and their future. He has spent the last decade studying and tutoring English. He combines his love of literature and philosophy with his love for educating and mentoring by using the books to teach life lessons and values that will help students find happiness and success. Christian loves his work and has made a career out of his passions, and he hopes to encourage the same for his students.
