Ethel
Personal Statement
Ethel has been teaching and tutoring students in Reading and Special Education for 30+ years. She never gives up on students especially those who struggle to learn to read. Her mantra is “I believe I can teach any student with at least low cognitive ability to read and write.” As a mother of a dyslexic child who also had learning disabilities she understands the frustration of students who learn differently. Ethel says she teaches to the individual, his learning style, and his interests. She is able to establish a good rapport with her students, helps them to gain confidence with their improving reading ability by providing a warm, welcoming classroom with much positive reinforcement. Ethel is a Wilson Reading System certified teacher who also teaches phonics, spelling, vocabulary, study skills, organizational skills, writing, grammar, and can provide homework assistance. She has taught all levels K-12. According to Ethel, the rewards of teaching are when her student says “I get it.”
