Personal Statement
Jessica holds a B.A. in History from Villanova University, a B.A. in Mathematics from Southern New Hampshire University, and her Master’s in Education from Monmouth University. She started her teaching career as a Corps Member in City Year, an AmeriCorps program where 18–25-year-olds coach and mentor elementary, middle, and high school students. After completing 2 years of City Year (first in Philadelphia, then in Brooklyn), Jessica became a High-School Mathematics Assistant at Newmark High School, a private school devoted to enriching the lives of students with disabilities. Her love of teaching Math encouraged her to obtain her Bachelor’s degree in the subject to pursue her teaching credentials while also obtaining Social Studies certification. In 2018, Jessica became the Transition Teacher at Newmark, working with high school post-graduates to develop the necessary life skills and individualized post-high school education or vocational plans. She understands the importance of making viable connections with students, learning about who they are on a personal level and what their interests are. Jessica is a caring, hard-working person who enjoys learning from her students just as much as teaching them. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, cooking, and spending time with her beloved cat, Blueberry.
