Personal Statement

Julianne began tutoring in the fourth grade when she was placed next to a struggling student in her class. She went on to be a water-ski instructor during the summer months of high school and later a tutor for math students during her senior year of college. While interning at Los Alamos National Laboratory, she was asked to assist in rewriting a coloring book that would help school-aged children to understand neutron scattering on a basic level. After graduating from James Madison University with a degree in Mathematics and a minor in French, Julianne completed a thesis in New Zealand based on theoretical chemistry topics but found that instead of researching into the unknown, she preferred fostering the love of math and science in others. Julianne went on to complete a Master of Arts in Teaching Secondary Mathematics from the University of Delaware. She enjoys finding one more way to ask deeper questions about the concepts so that students can develop their understanding into mastery, through logic and application of prior knowledge. Julianne started her teaching career at Woodbridge High School in Bridgeville, Delaware in 2011. In 2013, she joined the Pingry School’s math department teaching Algebra, Geometry and Algebra 2. She enjoys singing, playing guitar and traveling the world.

Testimonials

  • It is my great pleasure to unreservedly recommend Ms. Julie as a tutor in Mathematics. For the past year she has been tutoring my twins, now seniors in high school, to prepare them for the math sections of the PSAT, SAT and ACT as well as the SAT Math I and II Subject tests. Despite their different abilities and learning styles, she effectively focused on their individual weaknesses and clearly explained the concepts required to solve the problems at hand. She never finished a session until she was satisfied the student fully grasped the lesson. She came prepared with teaching materials and sent emails with additional practice materials, Her teaching style was open and relaxed and my children always felt comfortable asking questions. And most importantly, my children's performance on these various exams improved significantly thanks to her work. It has been a very positive experience for all, and I am hold her in great esteem.
