Personal Statement

Kevin is a graduate of Stevens Institute of Technology with a B.S. in Applied Physics. During his senior year, he became simultaneously enrolled in at St. Peter’s University which led to his state certification as teacher of physics. Before teaching, he pursued an internship at Liberty Science Center in which he researched and designed short demonstrations for the “Energy Quest” and “Skyscrapers” exhibits. This experience allowed Kevin to meet children of all ages in an educational environment and test new ways to engage and captivate young minds. From this inspiring opportunity, he learned the importance of visuals, demonstrations, and analogies. In order to be effective, Kevin believes that a lesson must involve student interaction and convey the practical, real-world benefits of the topics. After a few months of private tutoring and contributing to Liberty Science Center, Kevin accepted a short-term Physics position at Morristown High School before moving to Montclair High School to teach Physics Honors. Kevin has spent the last four years in NJ public schools, the last two of which he has dedicated to AP Physics 1. Kevin has previously served as the assistant coach to the Montclair High School robotics team. Kevin is also an advocate of 3D printing technology and has taught students how to design and create with a 3D printer as part of Montclair’s STEM program. Recently, he assisted a district-wide technology initiative by training teachers from the town’s many middle and elementary schools. He also works with the Gifted & Talented program at Montclair State University, finding creative ways to introduce and explain STEM subjects to middle-school aged children. In addition to these pursuits, Kevin has tutored high school students for the last ten years in various subjects, including physics, algebra, geometry, SAT math, and ACT math. Several of his former students scored above 760 on the math portion of the SAT.
