Laurie
Personal Statement
Laurie holds degrees from Harvard College (B.A., Biological Anthropology) and Boston Conservatory (MMEd). She has been teaching for over 20 years, and has taught in public and private schools, grades K-12. With a background in sciences and a career as a musician, her approach is systematic yet creative and improvisational. It is systematic in that she will carefully assess a student's needs and plan steps to reach the goal and creative/improvisational in that she will meet each student exactly where they are on that day, that week or that year and tailor the learning accordingly. Relationships are the foundation of her teaching and she seeks to foster a fun and supportive learning environment. She loves to coach writing (she secretly loves to proofread and correct grammar) and math skills (she loves the beauty of math and secretly loves to find real-life applications of math skills to answer the age-old question, "When will I ever use this?") When not teaching, she is to be found singing, playing ukulele, cooking, camping or helping her son apply to college.
