Nadia
Personal Statement
Nadia is a Cum Laude graduate of Gordon College with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature with a Creative Writing concentration. Her personal motivations for tutoring comes from a deep passion for literacy advocacy and were inspired by the active role she took in her. college’s Academic Support Center preparing educational materials addressing myths of and provisions for those with reading based learning disorders. Her approach to one-on-one tutoring is holistic, accounting both for the importance of working towards measurable goals as well as the relational aspect, building trust and paying close attention to the student’s interaction with the material. Her most exciting result came from a situation in which a student who had been working with the center for months finally made a breakthrough as a direct result of Nadia’s recommendation that she switch from SAT to ACT. The student was bright yet shy, making communication both vital and delicate. By establishing a trusting and friendly relationship with this student, Nadia was able to determine the aspects of the test that caused the student the most trouble and targeted these until the desired score was achieved. The satisfaction that comes from being able to provide a student with clear and compassionate guidance as they grapple with and ultimately overcome obstacles is what keeps Nadia tutoring.
