Personal Statement

Stephanie has always positioned the personal well-being of her students before any academic training she can provide. She values honesty and commitment in her students and dedicates herself to helping them learn how to learn. Acknowledging the individual is of paramount importance to her and that is achieved by being a good listener and respecting each student's unique qualities. She likes to think of herself as adaptable, adjusting to the needs of her students, so she doesn't really embrace one "style of teaching." Nevertheless, she sets standards for her students, offers different learning techniques and always relies on a sense of humor. A graduate of the College of New Jersey, where she earned her B.A. in English education and of New York University, where she graduated with an M.A. in Liberal Studies, Stephanie is trained in teaching reading and writing to students in grades 6 through 9. In addition, she has taught the Humanities and Film Studies, both for more than a decade. Currently, a docent in a New York City museum, she also writes for the museum newsletter and separately, contributes to an educational blog. She is a voracious reader, an amateur photographer, a film fan and also enjoys doing needlework.
