Personal Statement

Sylvia brings joy and enthusiasm to teaching English at all levels, up to AP and college levels. Currently, she teaches AP English at a top NJ high school. She welcomes discussion and enjoys getting to know her students as individuals. Previous to teaching high school, Sylvia taught college classes, to mainly first year students at several colleges, including Drew, Fairleigh Dickinson University and Temple University, while she earned an MA at Temple and a Ph.D. at Drew. She sees writing as a journey and a process of shaping our thoughts. Sylvia's students enjoy her warmth and enthusiasm and appreciate the ways she helps them hone their writing skills. Sylvia is devoted to her two daughters, who are now college graduates with both double-majoring in English and History/American studies. Sylvia also enjoys helping students prepare for the exams and essays that help open the door to their careers after high school.
